Information Technology Help Desk Intern - Temp6 505540

Pay Rate = $13.33/hr

Ann Arbor's Information Technology department's Help Desk area has openings for two college intern positions. The primary responsibility will be working through the Help Desk assisting end users with problems but opportunities may also arise in infrastructure and application support areas of I.T.

Nature of Work: 

  • Configure and install new and replacement computer equipment and peripherals (Windows 7 and Windows 10 desktop and laptop computers, displays, printers, cell phones, etc.) to locations throughout the City, as directed by the Help Desk staff and management.
  • Install software applications on desktop/laptop computers in the City.
  • Assist the Help Desk team by working with end users to troubleshoot and resolve reported IT problems & support requests as reported to IT.
  • Work with application support and infrastructure support teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Windows XP/ 7/8/10.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware including peripherals.
  • Ability to follow detailed technical documentation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least one year of academic work in information systems and/or computer science, working toward a Certification, Associate degree and/or Bachelor degree in the Information Technology field. Strong analytical aptitude.
  • Customer service orientation and experience working in a customer service driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work in a Windows domain network environment.
  • Previous experience preparing documentation.
  • Previous experience working with non-IT personnel in support of computers and software.

Physical Requirements:  Driving, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing and repetitive motions.

This work involves the ability to perform occasional lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.
