Role Summary To support a variety of operating units with the budget development process, financial performance reporting and strategic planning initiatives. In addition, this position provides analytical support for decision analysis, development of fees and charges, and is the primary liaison with specific operating units for all their financial needs.

Duties

Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Finance Director and may include the following:

Essential Duties

  • Lead the budget development process for multiple service units
  • Support the development of the city-wide budget
  • Support the development of a Service Area's business & strategic plans
  • Support operating management in the development and rollout of benchmarks and performance metrics
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting within the various service units
  • Prepare certain quantitative reports for presentation to senior management, City Council or others as appropriate
  • Generate timely budget/forecast statements
  • Monitor budget performance for a Service Area to insure their accuracy and create unique management reports as required
  • Independently analyze, predict, and solve problems
  • Conduct special studies affecting Service Area financial performance including fee analyses, overtime minimization, etc.
  • Analyze operational processes and procedures and recommend process and operational improvements
  • Assist with policy development and implementation of best practices

  • Analyze and organize financial information and prepare reports

  • Analyze complex budget and planning issues and assist in developing alternative solutions
  • Set priorities, coordinate multiple projects, work independently and meet critical deadlines
  • Listen to understand the intended meaning of the message
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service techniques

Equipment

Standard office equipment, PC, fax, copier, calculator, multi-line telephones and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry)

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Public Administration or closely related field
  • Municipal experience
