There is a possibility that this position may be renewed on an annual basis depending on the organization needs, funding and employee performance, in accordance with the City temporary worker's policy

Nature of Work: Assist Natural Area Preservation (NAP) Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator with all aspects of coordinating and promoting NAP's volunteer program. This may include, but is not limited to, coordinating special events and trainings; writing and distributing press releases and informational articles for NAP; editing and managing layout, printing, and distribution of quarterly newsletter; maintaining web presence including website and social media; giving public presentations about NAP; actively recruiting, training, and directing volunteers; coordinating and leading volunteer workdays; and taking part in our controlled burn program.

Required Qualifications: CPR/AED and First Aid certification required by start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Friendly, outgoing personality, suitable for working with the public and answering the phone. Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers. Understanding of ecological issues related to urban natural area management including invasive species, prescribed burning, natural features inventories, etc. Technical writing and editing skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software on PCs. Detail oriented. Excellent verbal communication skills.

Work Schedule: Because of the nature of working with volunteers, weekend and evening hours will be required. This position is a part-time position working 19 hours or less per week. Regular part-time employees are eligible for pro-rated sick time and vacation time accruals based on hours worked. This position is also eligible for holiday pay, a pro-rated floating holiday and personal time based on the amount of estimated hours worked per week.

Field work is completed depending on the season. Field work includes using hand tools including hand saws, loppers and industrial staplers, loading equipment into and out of the truck.

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

This position is an office position 85-90% of the time.

Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift for workdays in the field, which around 90% of facilities do not have wheelchair accessible facilities.

Move and lift light objects less than 20 lbs. such as mail, files, supplies, back pack with water or a drip torch, hand tools, etc.. Operating office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time. 

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
