IT Help Desk Intern

Starting Hourly Rate: $12.89

Work Schedule/Duration of Assignment: This position will work up to 29 hours a week, for the full duration of the 10-month assignment.

Nature of Work: 

  • Configure and install new and replacement computer equipment and peripherals (Windows 7 and Windows 10 desktop and laptop computers, displays, printers, cell phones, etc.) to locations throughout the City, as directed by the Help Desk staff and management.
  • Install software applications on desktop/laptop computers in the City.
  • Assist the Help Desk team by working with end users to troubleshoot and resolve reported IT problems & support requests as reported to IT.
  • Work with application support and infrastructure support teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have knowledge of Windows 7/8/10
  • Basic computer hardware troubleshooting skills, including peripherals.
  • Ability to follow detailed technical documentation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least one year of academic work in information systems, or must be working toward a Certification, Associate degree and/or Bachelor degree in the Information Technology field.
  • Strong analytical aptitude.
  • Customer service orientation and experience working in a customer service driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work in a Windows domain network environment.
  • Previous experience preparing documentation.
  • Previous experience working with non-IT personnel in support of computers and software.

Physical Requirements:  Driving, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing and repetitive motions.

This work involves the ability to perform occasional lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.
