Emergency Management


Essential Duties:

This position provides administrative support for the Director of Emergency Management and may be assigned the following activities/responsibilities:

  • Ensure effective record keeping
  • Create and organize files for various emergency preparedness projects
  • Create contact groups for emergency management activities using Outlook
  • Schedule and coordinate exercise and drill activities; manage attendee lists, and create support documents according to Homeland Security guidelines,
  • Assist with exercise set up and props
  • Assist with surveys and documentation for security and risk assessments
  • Assist with documentation and development of Continuity of Government plans
  • Schedule trainings and meetings, make room reservations, develop agendas, and take minutes,
  • Attend meetings with external emergency preparedness partners and take notes
  • Assist in management of Ann Arbor CERT volunteers (Community Emergency Response Team)
  • Maintain and create emergency callout lists in the CodeRED notification system
  • Interact with all Service Areas and external partners
  • Create and manage documentation for grant reporting
  • Assist with public outreach projects
  • May be asked to assist and fill in as the Fire Department's Management Assistant



Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree, preferably seeking a degree in Emergency Management
  • At least 2 years of proven administrative support with experience in all general office procedures and practices
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and accuracy; demonstrate outstanding customer service; demonstrate well-developed organizational and time management skills, demonstrate clear, concise verbal and written communication; office information technology; coordinate multiple duties; meet deadlines under pressure timely and accurately
  • Have a desire to learn about Emergency Management and Homeland Security
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook, Publisher, Power Point (Candidate will be tested)
  • Able to successfully complete a thorough criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience working within a fire department or fire prevention

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
