This is a Seasonal position which will be limited to 6 consecutive months. Temporary positions are not eligible for benefits. 

There is a possibility that this position may be renewed on an annual basis depending on the organization needs, funding and employee performance, in accordance with the City temporary worker's policy.


Starting Hourly Rate: $13.13


Nature of Work: The student intern will work with the Project Management team on engineering related duties as assigned. Opportunities are available in Survey, Inspection and Office.

The intern will perform tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Basic civil engineering tasks
  • Review of documents and/or plans, including permits
  • Assist in construction inspection activities
  • Assist in survey activities
  • Prepare public outreach/communication documents
  • Track and maintain databases
  • Maintain and edit informational web pages
  • Participate in the organization and running of public meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Must be able to effectively document and communicate technical information to both a technical and non technical audience
  • Ability to take instructions; work in teams, and serve the public
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products as well as general computer skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • Good organizational skills
  • The incumbent must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as he/she may be required to drive a vehicle for local travel. Must have a valid driver's license.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Schedule: This is a summer internship lasting May through August or September 2018. Position is 35 – 40 hours per week with flexible hours available Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm.
