IMPORTANT POSITION INFORMATION

This is a Seasonal position which will be limited to 6 consecutive months.

There is a possibility that this position may be renewed on an annual basis depending on the organization needs, funding and employee performance, in accordance with the City temporary worker's policy.

 

SURVEYOR
Starting Hourly Rate: $25.98

 

Nature of Work: Perform civil engineering surveying for the construction of roads, sidewalks, bike paths, bridges, sewers, and water main projects. Responsibilities include construction surveying work including:

* Survey Leveling – operating level rod, reading level for construction, creating field notes, reading level for control, troubleshooting and correcting problems, off adjusting control loops

* Construction Layout – operating survey total station, implementing and planning field strategy for minor and major construction projects, cut sheet preparation, point generation for staking, troubleshooting and correcting problems

* Control Traversing – operating survey tripod and prism, operating survey total station, planning and implementing field strategy, computing and adjusting field data, troubleshooting and correcting problems

* GPS Surveying – field GPS traversing, planning and implementing field strategy, processing field data, troubleshooting and correcting problems

Required Qualifications: Must 3 years of prior civil engineering survey experience. Must have a High school diploma/GED. Perform work independently and as part of a team. Use computers and related software applications. Must be experienced and able to perform construction inspection and/or Surveying for one or more of the project types listed above. Must have a valid Driver's License

Desired Qualifications: Must be experienced and able to perform construction inspection and/or Surveying for one or more of the project types listed above.

Work Schedule: The surveyor must coordinate their work schedule to survey the construction projects and/or provide the construction staking. The hours of work may vary during the weekdays and may include the weekends

Physical abilities include, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Physical abilities may also include, but are not limited to, setting construction hubs with sledge hammer, brushing through thicket and woods with machete (for line and grade), opening manholes with pick, using spud bar to chip through ice and hard ground, shoveling (snow and earth), lifting miscellaneous water and sewer appurtenances, turning on/off water gate valves, moving barricades and construction signs, and locating property irons/monuments. Incumbent may be subject to hazardous conditions including, but not limited to, working in extreme heat and cold for long durations, dust and noise from construction sites, working in traffic, working around construction equipment, poison ivy, chemicals (chlorine), and confined space entry.

 

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
