Laborer - Infrastructure Hourly Wage = $12.12/hr

 

This is a Seasonal position which will be limited to 6 consecutive months. Temporary positions are not eligible for benefits. 

There is a possibility that this position may be renewed on an annual basis depending on the organization needs, funding and employee performance, in accordance with the City temporary worker's policy.

Nature of Work: Assisting streets and utility employees with various types of maintenance activities. Work involves patching pot holes, hot asphalt installation, barricade delivery, pedestrian island cleanup, traffic control (working in a roadway, setting up cones/temporary signs, removing these devices and utilizing a stop/slow paddle to control vehicle flow), and related work as required. Ability to perform manual labor under adverse climatic conditions.

  • Assisting streets and utility employees with various types of maintenance activities.
  • Work may include patching pot holes, hot asphalt installation, barricade delivery and placement, trimming vegetation, debris clean up, placement and removal of cones/temporary signs and arrow boards, locating manholes, storm water outfall inspections, sanitary sewer inspections, assisting with water distribution system maintenance and repair activities.
  • Requires work in the roadway.
  • Ability to perform manual labor under adverse climatic conditions.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's license
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.

 Physical Requirements:

 Driving, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (i.e., domestic and wild animals, confined spaces, heights, mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.), poor atmospheric conditions (i.e., fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation), extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noise.

 The work often involves the ability to perform routine moderate lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. (vactor tubes, various equipment, hand tools) and occasional heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. (tipping and pulling manhole covers that are set in place (153lbs), tipping and pulling catch basin covers that are set in place (141lbs), shared lifting and loading of manhole frames and covers (153 lbs. cover, 154 lbs. frame), shared lifting and loading of catch basin frames and covers (141 lbs. cover, 245 lbs. frame), bags of Portland cement 94lbs.
