This is a seasonal position. There is a possibility that this position may be renewed on an annual basis depending on the organization needs, funding and employee performance, in accordance with the City temporary worker's policy.

SYSTEMS PLANNING TEMP II - TRANSPORTATION PLANNING Starting Hourly Rate: $16.13

The Transportation Planning Intern reports to the Transportation Program Manager in the Systems Planning Unit at the City of Ann Arbor.

Nature of Work: The Systems Planning Unit is responsible for infrastructure planning for the city. Its sister unit, Project Management, is responsible for the engineering of infrastructure in the city. The City's transportation plan update can be found on the web at:

The transportation planning group works on all areas defined in that document. This duties of this position includes: implementation activities related to the City's Transportation Plan; continued implementation of the City's Non-Motorized Plan, including research of policy issues relating to Non-motorized transportation; development of materials for public information and education as part of the Walk, Bike, Drive campaign; data collection of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists in the City; Coordination between Systems Planning and Project Management planning and layout for on-road bicycle facilities; facilitation of the Alternative Transportation Committee; assistance in executing the City of Ann Arbor employee transportation options program. All other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualification: Undergraduate degree or background in related field. Seeking graduate level students with an undergraduate degree or background in transportation planning or related field and strong writing skills. Significant project coordination with external stakeholders is also a fundamental part of this position. Excellent written communication skills. Must have a valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications: Working knowledge of specialty software including GIS, CAD, and desktop publishing.

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Position does require ability to do field work and travel to different field sites.

Duties entail the ability to work at a computer keyboard and on the telephone for extended periods of time. Operating standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. Move and lift objects up to 20 pounds such as mail, files and supplies.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

 This position will have a work schedule of 40 hours per week June-August and 10-12 hours per week, starting in September.
