SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATIONS TEMP 2 SUSTAINABILITY

The Sustainability Intern reports to the Sustainability and Innovations Planning Analyst II in the Sustainability and Innovations Unit at the City of Ann Arbor.

 

Nature of Work: Support implementation, and development of sustainability programs within the Sustainability and Innovations Office, under the supervision of the Sustainability and Innovations Planning Analyst II. Responsibilities include assistance in: conducting background research, data acquisition and analysis, program design, new project identification, developing communication materials, public engagement support, and updating the City's internal and external sustainability reporting platforms. Provide supplementary staff support to energy and sustainability programs such as the City Sustainability Framework, Climate Action Plan, and community-scale energy programs. May also support other relevant sustainability initiatives within the Sustainability and Innovations unit.

 

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, energy, environmental studies, public administration, urban planning, or related field of study. Graduate coursework in urban planning, natural resources, public policy, public administration, energy systems, or equivalent work experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office application suite, including intermediate with PowerPoint. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in architecture, economics, engineering, energy, public administration, complex systems, environmental studies, urban planning, or related field of study. Experience with GIS. Previous experience working on local sustainability initiatives a plus.

 

Work Schedule: Should be able to coordinate his/her work schedule with the academic schedule. The hours of work may vary during the weekdays and may include nights and weekends for meetings. Fifteen hours per week should be the likely expectation.

 

This is a time-limited position without a funding guarantee for continuation after May 31, 2019.

Duties entail the ability to work at a computer keyboard and on the telephone for extended periods of time. Operating standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. Move and lift objects up to 20 lbs such as mail, files, and supplies.

 

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
