Transportation Engineer II

Salary Range: $63,000 to $72,000

Offer will be commensurate to the level of experience and licensing that you possess, at the time of your application.

 

Role Summary

The knowledge and experience required for this level of work results from an understanding of how a multimodal transportation network functions, with particular emphasis on safety, complete streets and active transportation. Assignments require the application of intensive and diversified knowledge of traffic and transportation engineering principles and practices. This position makes decisions independently to solve engineering problems; assists in representing the City in public settings; coordinates the work of consultants, contractors and team members to ensure successful completion of various projects; and plans and coordinates multi-faceted work in transportation.

Duties

Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Transportation Manager or designee and may include the following:

Essential Duties

  • Performs project management, traffic engineering, safety assessments, development proposals reviews, signal and intersection analysis, and traffic modeling simulations.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs important engineering projects with many complex features. 
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering work performed by consultants and other professionals. 
  • Assists in the preparation of funding applications.
  • Retrieves and analyzes crash data and formulates safety recommendations.
  • Performs fieldwork and data collection and prepares reports to support changes to the transportation network.
  • Interacts with the public, consultants, contractors, stakeholders, and fellow team members in a responsive and professional manner.

  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex tasks such as confirming design requirements, referencing applicable rules and regulations, and coordination among disparate parties.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as confirming design requirements, referencing applicable rules and regulations, and coordination among disparate parties.
  • Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the project assignment area and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Review and provide input on public transportation infrastructure design such as roadways, crosswalks, bicycle facilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed engineering plans and development site plans

Passenger vehicle, bicycle, computers, printers, scanners, field and office measurement tools, cell phones, and miscellaneous office equipment.

Education, Training and Experience (position requirements at entry)

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • At least 3 years of civil engineering experience

Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry)

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Fundamental-in-Engineering certificate (FE) or Professional Engineering License (PE)
