TEMPORARY PUBLIC WORKS TEMP I (GIS)

Starting Hourly Rate: $13.33

The Public Works Temp1 (GIS) Intern reports to GIS Specialist in the Public Works Unit at the City of Ann Arbor.

Nature of Work: Data entry and quality control of information from various water, sewer, and storm water and other infrastructure sources into the City's GIS. Create maps and generate reports from the GIS, databases and spreadsheets.

Required Qualifications: GIS coursework or one year experience with GIS software use. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience using ESRI's ARCView, and Microsoft Office products. Particularly with Access or similar database and Excel. Geography or related background preferred.

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Duties entail the ability to work at a computer keyboard and on the telephone for extended periods of time. Operating standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. Move and lift objects up to 20 lbs such as mail, files and supplies.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
